Hia guys! I hope you all had a very merry christmas and celebrated in style as you welcomed the new year. I on the other hand had to work at 7am the next day so had a rather sober but enjoyable new years eve. I also had a great christmas with the family even though as usual I ate waaay too much chocolate and ended up having a very fierce disagreement with my brother about him cheating whilst playing board games. We’re a competitive family to say the least!
2013 for me signifies the end of an era as I finish University and graduate this summer. Which is a scary thought considering I have 4 productions to get through and about 7 essays to hand in before I can even think of celebrating in my cap and gown! So I’ve been thinking and as usual I have come up with a few new years resolutions to help me along the way, and this year I am determined to stick to them!! One of my new years resolution is to work hard as there’s only 4 and a half months before I finish my course, and even though I am getting slightly fed up of all the work and the pressure I know now isn’t the time to be slacking and giving up. Also I’m going to take every opportunity that is given to me (within reason) as in if I think it will benefit me I will take it. As I am graduating this year I have to make myself as employable as possible so if someone for example from the TV industry asks me to work for them for a short while for nothing, I will do it. This is also true for you guys who are in Year 13 now, you’re probably getting fed up of ‘same-old’ school life and teachers nagging you for work constantly but think of the bigger picture – the more effort you put into your A Levels = the better chance you have of getting into your first choice university and doing something you really want to do. Also if a university that isn’t in your first choice invites you to an open day or an interview, take that opportunity because you never know you might change your mind after seeing the campus and getMount Kilimanjaroting to know more about the course. I believe strongly in the saying ‘Only you can make yourself succeed’. Cheesy, but true! If there’s one thing I have learnt from University, it is that. You learn to be independent at University; lecturers and are helpful but at the end of the day it is you that has to put the effort in to succeed and it’s the same before you become an Undergraduate student. Food for thought as you munch into the last of your christmas choccies perhaps.
Anyway rant over and on a brighter note I have made myself another new years resolution and that is to get fit after the binging of alcohol and food over the christmas period, I definitely need to get back into shape if I am to climb Kilimanjaro in 9 months!! Scary but very exciting times! I’ve put the summit of Kili as my wallpaper on my laptop as a constant reminder of the huge challenge that’s ahead of me! I must be mad seeing as I struggle to climb the small hills in Cardiff which is a tiny mole hill compared to Kili, but I think that’s what’s going to make the success that bit sweeter when I finally achieve to make it to the top, that 9 months ago I was totally inexperienced at mountaineering and totally unfit and here’s me up the top of the highest mountain in Africa. Anyway it’s also all fitting with my new year resolutions.
2013 is looking very exciting, but very busy and stressful at the same time; and with the time and the effort you can achieve amazing things this year too and who know by this time next year you could be living in a new place, have made loads of new friends and could be studying something you’re really passionate about aka a Fresher!
Enjoy the rest of your holidays and relax while you can! (Unless you have January exams :/ then you should stock up on plenty of goodies to keep you going during revision as a treat and take plenty of breaks!)
